Thurmond Announces Endorsements From Two More Major Education Associations

Press Release

SACRAMENTO, CA – Wednesday, February 7, 2018 – Today, Tony Thurmond announced the addition of two endorsements from major education associations, the California School Employees Association (CSEA) and the California Association of Bilingual Educators (CABE-PAC), in his campaign to become the next State Superintendent of Public Instruction.

"CSEA endorses Tony Thurmond for Superintendent of Public Instruction because we believe that he will do the best job for the studentsour members serve and care about so much," said Ben Valdepena, CSEA President. "Tony's record proves that he gets things done for the students with the greatest needs, like when he expanded the free lunch program to 400,000 students, and how he advocates for school-based health services and foster youth.  Tony's plan shows that he understands how education in California can change for the better, including moving money from prisons to schools and investing in STEM education and early education programs. Our kids will be healthy, supported, and ready to learn for the future with Tony Thurmond as our State Superintendent of Public Instruction."

"Tony Thurmond embraces opportunities for California students to develop multilingual skills in their Pre K-12 education,” said Rosalia Salinas, CABE-PAC President.  “Assemblymember Thurmond's extensive experience in public service and track record as an elected official, his passionate dedication to our public school students who are most in need of extra support, and his focus on parent engagement have convinced the California Association of Bilingual Educators (CABE-PAC) that he is the most qualified candidate to serve as our next statewide education leader."

In endorsing Thurmond, CSEA and CABE-PAC join the California Teachers Association, California Federation of Teachers, California Faculty Association, SEIU Local 1000, SEIU Local 99, and the Los Angeles School Police Association, making Thurmond the candidate most endorsed by associations of school employees in the race for State Superintendent.
