Firefighters Endorse Tony Thurmond for California Superintendent of Schools

SACRAMENTO, CA – Wednesday, January 10, 2018– Today the California Professional Firefighters (CPF), the largest organization of firefighters in the state, announced that it has endorsed Assemblymember Tony Thurmond for State Superintendent of Public Instruction.

“Tony has been a champion for education, workplace safety, healthcare, and environmental protections - all issues that are important for firefighters and the communities firefighters protect,” said CPF President Lou Paulson.  “As State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tony’s focus on career technical training and apprenticeship programs, including programs for firefighting, will be critical to preparing our future workforce and our future firefighters to take on California’s growing challenges and opportunities. Firefighters are proud to stand with Tony Thurmond, whose unwavering commitment to great public education will make for a stronger and safer California.”

We must also work to constantly improve and expand the reach of fire safety education, to ensure that Californians are ready for the continued threat of big fires.
