NURSES ENDORSE TONY THURMOND FOR STATE SCHOOLS CHIEF

Sacramento, Calif., WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 3, 2018 – Today the California Nurses Association (CNA) announced their endorsement of Assemblymember Tony Thurmond for State Superintendent of Public Instruction.

“Nurses endorse Tony Thurmond for state schools chief because no other candidate has fought for children’s health like Tony,” said CNA co-president Malinda Markowitz. “Tony has co-authored legislation that guarantees health insurance for undocumented children, and he is a co-author on SB 562 for single-payer, guaranteed healthcare in California. He has also passed bills to help 400,000 students enroll in the free lunch program and to support the expansion of health and mental health services in schools.  Tony understands how important health is to a student’s success, and as State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tony will fight to ensure California’s kids are healthy and ready to learn.”

California Nurses Association/National Nurses Organizing Committee/AFL-CIO represents more than 100,000 registered nurses and is the largest nurses union in the state of California.
