SACRAMENTO - Senator Mark Ridley-Thomas (Los Angeles - District 26), Chairman of the California Legislative Black Caucus (LBC), endorsed Richmond City Councilmember Tony Thurmond in his bid for the California State Assembly.
"Tony Thurmond is an inspiration in his community, working to end street violence and to provide local, high-wage jobs," said Ridley-Thomas. "He is not afraid to fight the tough fights on issues like health care and pollution. The Caucus looks forward to working with him to fight for all Californians."
"I'm deeply honored by the support of the Legislative Black Caucus, and grateful for the leadership of Senator Ridley-Thomas and Speaker Bass," said Thurmond. "I look forward to joining the Caucus and working with all its members in Sacramento."
The LBC's mission is to represent and advocate the interests of Black people throughout California. It seeks to increase African American participation and representation in all levels of government. Assembly Majority Leader Karen Bass, Speaker-designate of the Assembly, serves as the LBC Vice-Chair.
OakPAC, Richmond Firefighters, Richmond Police and local labor groups are among the many organizations that have already endorsed Thurmond.
Thurmond has also secured a growing list of endorsements from legislators, including the influential support of State Assembly leaders like Mervyn M. Dymally, Sandre Swanson, Fiona Ma, Alberto Torrico and former Speaker Pro Tempore John T. Knox.
