RICHMOND - California State Assembly leaders Mervyn M. Dymally, Alberto Torrico and former Speaker Pro Tempore John T. Knox, have endorsed Richmond City Councilmember Tony Thurmond in his bid for the State Assembly, District 14.
Assemblymember Dymally praised Thurmond for his work with youth, gangs and foster care reform.
“Tony Thurmond gets it—he represents the kind of change we badly need in the State Assembly. He sees that violence and unemployment and homeless are all interconnected, not isolated issues. He sees the need to address these problems together: to create jobs, make the streets safe and to give our youth something to strive for,” said Assemblymember Dymally. “He doesn’t wait around for things to happen, he makes things happen. District 14 should have a leader like that.”
“Tony sees exactly how our policies affect his district, and the state. He knows that we need health care, education, job opportunities and a clean environment for our children,” Torrico said. “I hope I get the chance to work with Tony on these issues in Sacramento.”
“I see a great legislator in Tony Thurmond,” said Former Speaker Pro Tempore and State Assembly member John Knox. “He’s ready to make the change he wants to see in his community. That’s a rare quality.”
