Sacramento, CA – California has become the first state in the nation to formally support Congress’s censure of President Donald Trump. The California State Assembly voted today on a resolution which supports the United States Congress to censure the President and calls on other states to do the same. House Resolution 57 passed the Assembly with bipartisan support. Assemblymember Tony Thurmond introduced the resolution. Thurmond said:

“California sent a strong message to President Trump, and the rest of the nation, that we will no longer tolerate his behavior,” said Thurmond. “The leader of the free world can’t continue to use language that legitimizes the actions of extremists groups that promote hate. Congress must exercise its power to check the President by voting for his immediate censure.”

Democrats in the California State Assembly voted overwhelmingly to support the censure.

The censure resolution received key endorsements from the California NAACP and Congresswoman Karen Bass.
