About Tony Thurmond

Tony Thurmond has more than 15 years experience working in youth and non-profit causes to help improve education and provide job training and opportunities for youth.

Tony was appointed to the Richmond City Council in July 2005, and was elected to a two-year term in November 2006. He served as Council Liaison to Richmond's Youth Commission and Workforce Investment Board and as the Council Liaison to the West Contra Costa Unified School District.

Tony has been active in a variety of areas, much of it focused on improving education, job training and job opportunities for youth and low-skilled adult workers. He also served on the Board of the Education Fund for West Contra Costa schools.

Tony and his wife Kristin live in Richmond with their two young daughters, one of whom just started kindergarten at Valley View Elementary School.
